Cabo, what to bring, what not to bring, what to bring back.
We get many questions on what to pack and what not to pack. Keep in mind our Ventanas unit is fully stocked with pool towels, basic, snorkel gear, games, books, chairs, tennis racquets and full kitchen essentials. Here is a list of what to bring.
San Lucas offers a blend of relaxation and adventure, making it the perfect vacation spot. By packing smartly, you’ll ensure a hassle-free trip and enjoy everything Cabo has to offer to the fullest. Safe travels and have a blast!
Essentials:
- Travel Documents: Passport, travel insurance, and any reservation confirmations. Keep a clear scanned copy of your passport and ID on your phone.
- Cash & Cards: Mastercard and Visa widely accepted, having some pesos on hand is always a good idea. Discover is not accepted and American Express not always. Make sure your credit card doesn’t have foreign transaction fees. Do not use debit cards. See more in our “Money” tips section.
Clothing:
- Swimwear: You’ll probably live in these. Bring at least 2 sets. Don’t forget we have a washer and dryer.
- Lightweight Clothing: Think breathable fabrics. Pack dresses, shorts, tank tops, and sundresses. Bring at least 1 light jacket or sweatshirt for cool nights or relaxing on the patio or rooftop.
- Evening Wear: Some restaurants and bars have dress codes, so bring a couple of nicer outfits.
- Beach Cover-ups: For when you’re lounging by the pool or beach.
- Comfortable Shoes: Flip flops for the beach, sandals for walking around, and a pair of nice shoes for evenings out. Cabo is full of uneven sidewalks and sand so leave the high heels at home.
Accessories:
- Sunhat & Sunglasses: Protect yourself from the blazing sun.
- Beach Bag: To carry your sunscreen, book, and other essentials.
Toiletries:
- Sunscreen: A must-have. Go for reef-safe options to protect marine life. Sunscreen is very expensive in Cabo.
- Aloe Vera Gel: In case you get a little too much sun.
- Basic Meds: Pain relievers, any prescription meds, and anti-nausea pills if you plan on doing water activities. Make sure you bring prescriptions in original bottles in case you get questioned by customs.
Tech & Gadgets:

Mexican Customs allows you to bring
Up to 3 liters of Alcohol (in your checked bags of course) 25 Cigars. Of course you can buy Cubans in Cabo. We recommend J&J Cigars which also has great rum drinks and a smoking room and going to see Fernando Jara at Paradise Tequila who obviously has great tequila. You can also bring 10 packs of cigarettes. Although, cigarettes are cheaper in Cabo than in most states. Vapes of any kind and pot are illegal in Mexico.
What not to bring!
Cabo San Lucas is all about sun, sand, and good vibes. But while it’s tempting to overpack, some items are better left at home. Here’s what not to bring on your Mexican getaway.
- Bulky Sweaters and Heavy Jackets: Leave your winter wear behind. Cabo’s warm climate means you’ll rarely need more than a light cover-up in the evenings.
- Expensive Jewelry: While it’s fun to accessorize, bringing expensive or sentimental jewelry isn’t necessary. Opt for simple, inexpensive pieces that you won’t worry about losing.
- Multiple Devices: Trust me, you don’t need a laptop, tablet, phone, and e-reader. Streamline your gadgets to keep packing light and stress-free.
- Too Much Cash: You won’t need to carry large amounts of cash. Cards are widely accepted, and there are plenty of ATMs if you need some local currency. ONLY USE ATMs at the banks.
- Valuable Electronics: Leave your work laptop or other valuable electronics at home. You’re on vacation—unplug and enjoy the moment!
- Dress Shoes: You’ll rarely need more than a pair of nice sandals. Skip the heavy, bulky dress shoes and opt for something lighter.
- Socks! & Long pants- Almost no need, higher end places require nice clothes but not pants.
- Excessive Makeup: The beachy, laid-back vibe of Cabo means you can go light on makeup. Pack your essentials, but skip the whole makeup kit.
- Vapes or drugs. Both illegal. Big fines or worse. We know weed is legal in some states and Canada but if you partake, be careful and don’t buy from a stranger or someone outside. 99% of the time It’s fake or can hurt you.
